Your first map

This ten-minute path uses a built-in recipe so you can learn the workspace before designing a graph from scratch. Use a new baseplate or a saved copy of a place: the final step replaces all existing terrain.

  1. Open File, enter a name under New map, and select Create Map.
  2. Open the Build tab and select a terrain recipe such as Rolling Grassland.
  3. Set Width, Depth, and Maximum height. For a quick test, keep the region modest.
  4. Return to Graph. Follow the wires into Build Map: it needs Height and Material; Sea Level is optional.
  5. Inspect the right-hand preview. Switch between Height, Material, and Slope, and toggle 3D Mesh to inspect proportions.
  6. Return to Build and select Build Terrain.

When the build finishes, you should have walkable smooth terrain in Workspace and an editable Atlas project saved with the place. Changing the graph does not alter that terrain until you build again.

danger

Building clears all existing Workspace.Terrain. Parts and other Workspace instances are not the terrain container, but you should still save the place before a first build.

Atlas evaluates one sample per 4-stud terrain voxel. Preview resolution only changes interactive previews; it does not change final build density.

If the preview or build is blank, trace the Height and Material wires into Build Map and check Troubleshooting.

Next, learn how the graph works or follow the from-scratch terrain workflow.
